 | Volunteering at Artworkers
Artworkers has many opportunities for students (arts, administration, business and media), artists, and anyone interested in volunteer work in the arts.
Positive attitude and reliability a must.
Volunteering positions in 2010
The volunteer program at Artworkers contributes to the small team to reach higher. There are several projects that are on the run at the moment and we are looking for volunteers to start ASAP.
Current volunteer jobs are:
Muscles for moving, packing and sorting: January – March 2010
As Artworkers is moving from one premise to another we require some assistance in packing and unpacking our office as well as creating a very organised and functional office for our staff and members. No experience necessary but pedantic organises welcome with a willingness to help out.
Administration Assistance: February – December 2010
Artworkers office is always buzzing so there are random things that can be done. This position is open to those who might not be able to commit all the time.
Membership processing: February – December 2010
As Artworkers is a membership organisation there are some administrational tasks that co-inside with processing memberships such as compiling membership packs, letters and receipts. This is a weekly task so if you are available for one day a week or fortnight and like doing mail outs (small) then this position is for you.
Gallery Attendants: March – December 2010
Artworkers Alliance will be launching a gallery space in March/ April this year. We will be looking for gallery attendants for Saturdays as well as available for opening events. No experience necessary as one the job training will apply. Volunteers are expected to commit to one Saturday a month.
Program Photographer: March – December 2010
Artworkers Alliance manages several programs. We are seeking an emerging photographer who would like to build up their profile by photographing our events and programs. All images used by Artworkers will be credited to the photographer.
Bar Staff: March – December 2010
As Artworkers will be holding at least one exhibition a month we will require assistance with the serving of food and drinks. Bar volunteers must be over 18, no experience necessary although a ‘Responsible Service of Alcohol’ certificate is preferable.
Installation team: March – December 2010
During the exhibition schedule Artworkers will be seeking an installation team to help install shows at a high exhibition standard.
Data Entry for Artworkers Surveys: March – November 2010
Artworkers asks participants/ members to complete surveys in regards to Artworkers programs and benefits. The volunteer’s role is to compile the results of surveys through data entry. This position would require the volunteer to come in once a month.
Information sourcing for the weekly ebulletin
Every week Artworkers compiles an ebulletin jam packed full of jobs, opportunities, exhibitions, industry news and much much more! The volunteer’s role would include researching, sourcing and compiling industry news. The commitment expected of the volunteer would be one day every week/ fortnight.
Database Development
This volunteer position would involve researching, compiling and updating databases. Databases are always changing so this position would require a few days initially then it would require maintenance a few times through out the year.
Artist Database Development
There are many methodologies for artists databases, and Artworkers would like to develop a more sufficient and manageable database to search for artists. This position will involve researching artists databases, potentially uploading and creating new systems of searching and organising.
Project assistance with artist folio development for art leasing
Art leasing is a program that allows additional income to some of our members. We would like to create a folio of artists who wish to be involved; this folio will be shown to potential clients. This position would require some computer and graphic knowledge.
The Artworkers office is located at Level 3 / 381 Brunswick Street, Fortitude Valley and is open 9am - 5pm Monday to Friday. If you are interested in volunteering, we are happy to work with you in regards to availability.
PERKS: We provide full training and offer other professional and skills development opportunities. Committed volunteers ( 21 hours+ ) receive a free Artworkers membership (not including Accredited). And we also have a yummy supply of biscuits!
